MF14AJ0: Calcite after Gypsum with Siderite
Floater group of twinned Gypsum crystals, white and bright, that are replaced by a white carbonate, very probably Calcite. A very original and interesting sample, very different from the usual at Cavnic.

TXB69AQ0: Calcite and Calcite with Hematite inclusions
Very sharp Calcite crystal, with the dominant forms of an acute scalenohedron, between transparent and translucent, with very bright luster and reddish color due to Hematite inclusions. On matrix, with an earlier generation of small white Calcite crystals.

MFF94AO1: Calcite coated by Hematite and Quartz
Two large, extraordinarily sharp, translucent, rhombohedral Calcite crystals with fine Hematite coatings that are in turn coated by very lustrous and completely colorless Quartz microcrystals. Extraordinary aesthetics.

TB37: Calcite doubly terminated
Aerial, with the two tips unbroken, and very well placed on the matrix. It also has good contrast between the matrix's colorless Calcite and the orangish main crystal. Esthetics!

JH14E5: Calcite doubly terminated
This one appeals to me because it is unusual. The Calcite crystals, which are very well defined, doubly terminated, and clear, appear to be randomly spread across the dark matrix.

11TP46: Calcite epitactic Rhodochrosite, Sphalerite, Pyrite
Rich group of Calcite crystals in epitactic growth on Rhodochrosite. The rhodochrosite acted as a substrate which controlled the shapes and orientations of the younger Calcite crystals. The specimen is completed by crystals of Sphalerite which form the matrix, and tiny crystals of Pyrite sprinkled between the white Calcite crystals.

MTB48CD5: Calcite on Aragonite and on Sulphur
Aggregate of thick Aragonite crystals with well defined faces and edges completely covered by small, very lustrous Calcite crystals. The entire set has been deposited on a matrix formed by Sulphur crystals. A classic of Italian mineralogy.

SE97AC7: Calcite on Aragonite and Sulfur
Aggregate of very flattened Aragonite crystals with their characteristic pseudohexagonal shape. The surfaces of their faces are coated by small Calcite crystals and they have deformed Sulfur crystals on the back. As is the case with so many specimens in this collection, in this case a great Italian classic, the sample is of great quality for the locality.

NC9F2: Calcite on Baryte
On a base of laminar Baryte there are two curious groups of Calcite crystals; they look like sprays and their gray color contrasts well with the white matrix.

Group of Calcite crystals, one of them clearly dominant, rounded, with scalenohedral and rhombohedral faces, transparent, lustrous, with a more yellow color than usual, and with Dolomite crystals.

ET60E4: Calcite on Dolomite
I think the photo says more than I can explain. The white crystals are not what they look like: they are Calcite, so don’t be mistaken. The brown ones are what they look like: Dolomite.

There is good contrast between the yellow Calcite and the green spherical Prehnite. The crystals of calcite are well positioned on the Prehnite matrix and the overall effect is delicate and soothing. A very fine specimen.

Very acute crystal of Calcite totally covered by a second generation of globular Calcite with gray tones and located very aerially on a matrix of white Quartz crystals. Very original and different from other pieces from this mining district.

Excellent representation of Calcite from Guanajuato. The specimen is especially esthetic due to the aerial position of flat rhombohedral crystals, with a lenticular habit, on a matrix of lightly violet Quartz.

TC93Z9: Calcite on Quartz (variety amethyst) and Hematite
Sharp scalenohedral crystals with very well defined faces and edges, partially coated by small Quartz (amethyst) crystals and implanted on a cavity of the same mineral but with larger crystals. A sample special for the exhibit case, very elegant.

TP6AF7: Calcite on Quartz (variety chalcedony)
White spherical Calcites with crystalline overgrowths that show three faces of a rhombohedron and extensions forming a three-pointed star. The Calcite spheres have grown on Quartz (chalcedony variety) with a very pale blue color.
The sample is from the collection of La Unión area minerals of Alain Martaud, whose label we’ll send to the buyer.

TPM76AO0: Calcite replaced by sand
Group of crystals, with one of them clearly dominant and all of them doubly terminated, totally occupied by inclusions of sand. They are formed by a prism with curved edges and a poorly defined terminal rhombohedron. An American classic which it is currently very difficult to obtain in good specimens as the area in which they were found has been declared a National Park.

TA58H2: Calcite replacing Mercenaria sp
This kind of “boat” is a fossilized shell of Mercenaria sp, the interior of which is now occupied by honey-colored Calcite crystals filling most of the available inner space. The Calcite crystals “borrowed” calcium from Mercenarias for their growth.

TX97AH3: Calcite with Aragonite
You can opine, perhaps, that Calcite is a “modest” species, but it can also reach unexpected heights of elegance as in the case of this complete crystal that is clear, colorless, very rich in faces and has additional elongated Calcite and Aragonite crystals with curious parallel growths. Due to its special transparency, the Calcite crystal has a high birrefringence that allows one to see “double” images through it.
