Tennantite with Quartz and Chalcopyrite.
TD60Z6: Tennantite with Quartz and Chalcopyrite
Group, on a Chalcopyrite matrix, of complex Tennantite crystals with a tetrahedral shape and very rich with faces, very bright and partially coated by small Quartz crystals. The analysis of the crystals indicates that they are basically silvery Tennantite, but the presence of other silver minerals such as Miargyrite, Pyrargyrite or Freibergite has been detected. The sample is from a Mexican zone that is scarcely known in mineralogical circles, so we indicate the locality as approximate because we don’t know if all the samples are from a single mine, different mines, or from a wider mining area. We will send a copy of the analysis of the Tennantite to the buyer.

Tetrahedrite (silver rich variety) with Chalcopyrite and Quartz.

This elegant silver-rich Tetrahedrite with Chalcopyrite and Quartz has a long history with labels starting in 1925 by Franz Ding and ending with John S. White. At that time the silver-rich Tetrahedrite was called "Freibergite", that name has come with the label but an analysis have proven that it is not "Freibergite" but silver-rich Tetrahedrite. Although the photos may look like there is a broken crystal the piece is perfect and has no damage. We will send labels and the analysis to the buyer of the specimen.

Platy Ilmenite crystals with irregular contours and completely pseudomorphed by Rutile, coated by very sharp Titanite crystals that are bright, with very well defined faces and edges, and with a very apparent pleochroism that shows a yellow color under led light but is greenish with daylight or neon light. Partially coated by Microcline crystals. The process of replacement of Ilmenite by Rutile seems very similar to that of other localities with similar geological conditions (by example the Zambian Rutile) and it is due to hydrothermal processes at the site. A novelty at Sainte Marie-aux- Mines 2016. Characteristically platy Ilmenite crystals with irregular contour and completely pseudomorphed by Rutile, coated by very sharp Titanite crystals that are bright, with very well defined faces and edges, and with a very apparent pleochroism that shows a yellow color under led light but is greenish with natural or neon light.
The process of replacement of Ilmenite by Rutile seems very similar to that of other localities with similar geological conditions (by example the Zambian Rutile) and it is due to hydrothermal processes at the site. These samples, very different from the Titanite previously known at Imilchil, have required a hurried analytical process that we’ll extend and complete. We’ll send to the buyer the information and documentation previously obtained about the process and also a copy of the analyses done on the different species present in these samples.
