Santa Rita Mine

From the not so well known Santa Rita Mine come these Sphalerites of clear color and sharp crystals, well placed on a matrix covered by concretions of non pink Rhodochrosite. This mine also produces some high quality Galena.

'Pearceite' with Proustite

TRJ16AO2: Group of very sharp 'Pearceite' crystals, with a hexagonal outline, lustrous and on matrix, with Calcite and Proustite crystals. In the absence of more information, we retain the original name 'Pearceite' although Uchucchacua specimens, according to the recent nomenclature changes introduced by the IMA, would generally more specifically be Pearceite-T2ac.

'Pearceite' with Proustite

TV47AL6: Very aerial group of ‘Pearceite’ crystals, with sharp faces and edges, and very marked and shiny striations, on matrix. Accompanied by small transparent Proustite crystals with a bright red color. We label the specimen 'Pearceite', with quotation marks, due to the changes introduced by the IMA in the nomenclature of the species, recently subdivided.
The sample comes from the well-known Thomas P. Moore collection, whose label we will send to the buyer.

TM98AJ3: Group of Pearceite crystals with a thick-tabular shape and very well defined hexagonal contour. They are very bright and are on matrix, with rhombohedral Calcite crystals, small cubic Pyrite crystals, and Chalcopyrite crystals.

TV87AF1: Wonderful dendritic and very elongated octahedral crystals on matrix. The crystals exhibit very well defined spinel law twinning. The quality of the sample is better than is usually known for the locality.

TR54D9: Proustite with Rhodocrosite and Quartz. It is very aerial, very esthetic, perfect, and shows a good contrast with the matrix. There is a first generation of darker crystals and a second one of redder ones. The specimen has been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the person that buys it.

EQ36AC4: Sharp and very well defined crystals with the faces of a prism, a scalenohedron and a terminal rhombohedron. They are transparent, bright, with a very vivid, deep and luminous color. On a matrix with botryoidal aggregates of manganese oxides. At the base of the dominant crystal there is a recrystallized natural fissure.

EG70AE4: Aggregate of Rhodochrosite crystals with a prismatic shape and rhombohedral termination. Very transparent with an intense red color and in a vug coated by manganese oxides on a rocky matrix.

MD94AD2: Very sharp and acute scalenohedral Rhodochrosite crystals. They are transparent, have a very intense red color, and are on a matrix of manganese oxides with small Quartz crystals. The sample is very characteristic of Uchucchacua and it is better conserved than usual.

NE91AL5: Flattened rhombohedral Rhodochrosite crystals, almost lenticular, a rare habit in the deposit, with polycrystalline growths on the faces. On matrix, between transparent and translucent, bright red and with good luster.

MA50R4: A novelty in Munich 2010. Group of elongated cubo-octahedral crystals of very well defined faces and edges and of a considerable size for this species. One of the crystals at the center of the group shows, very visible, the Spinel law twin. This species is very rare, especially in easily seen, well developed crystals as in this case.

EF56AE5: Aggregate of scalenohedral crystals with acute, non broken, rhombohedral terminations. They are very bright and transparent, have a very intense, deep and uniform red color and are on a rocky matrix coated by a thin layer of black manganese oxides.

Wire Silver

One of the major novelties in the 2001 Ste. Marie / Denver Shows was the new wire Silver from Uchucchacua, Lima, Peru. They were found at the start of this year and their quality and beauty is comparable to the best finds from the old famous localities such as Kongsberg, with maybe better luster on the Silver crystals.
On some cases it is better to take care. For this reason we took our time to analyze the matrix of this new specimens and for to check carefully each specimen to be sure that nothing was faked. Analysis proved that the dark brownish matrix of these specimens is a natural amorphous Silicate of Manganese and that the white-yellowish crystals are Rhodochrosite. As usual, we will send copy of this analysis to the buyers of the specimens.

MF50AA9: Two parallel stalactitic growths of very sharp and bright crystals, with a very intense, deep and uniform color, that are on a base of white chalcedony. The sample is from a recent find in a new quarry at the locality.

Quartz (variety amethyst)

MB93AA9: Perimorph growth of very sharp and bright crystals with a very deep violet color, very rich with oxide inclusions and with recrystallized hematoid Quartz microcrystals on the edges. The amethyst grew coating a group of Calcite crystals, subsequently dissolved and completely missing, that left a big cavity with geometrical forms.

MB99I0: The quality of its color is extraordinary. Crystals have different intensities of color on the prism and the rhombohedron, it is more intense on the terminations. The group is a stalagmite which once covered a hexagonal crystal of Calcite, now gone, but it left a mold in the center of the specimen. We note the precision of the quarry’s name, until now very difficult to determine on Uruguayan specimen.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Mineral Up’ on page 54 in number 2007/1.

TR90X8: Partially doubly terminated scalenohedral Calcite crystal with parallel growths on the lower and micro-recrystallization on the surface of its faces. It is implanted on a geode of Quartz (amethyst) crystals that in the area near the Calcite have abundant black Hematite inclusions.

TP50I8: An extraordinary formation of amethyst crystals that covers completely a scalenohedral crystal of Calcite, preserving its original form. Color and luster are magnificent. It is from the classic zone of Artigas, actually worked by experienced mineralogists, so the samples found are especially interesting.

MR72AB7: Druse of Quartz (variety amethyst) crystals, one of them clearly dominant and with a considerable size. They are coating the surfaces of a group of now missing Calcite crystals, preserving their original shape. The crystals show a neat geometric color zoning, clearer on the prism faces and deep violet on the terminations. The sample is from a not well known quarry at the classic Artigas área and where very interesting and esthetic samples are today being recovered.

Calcite with Quartz (variety amethyst) and Hematite

MF26M5: Scalenohedral crystal of Calcite in a geode of Quartz (amethyst). The crystal has three channels that coincide with the acute edges and these contain thin growths of Hematite microcrystals. Within the crystal there is a very well defined inclusion of red Hematite. The sample is from a new quarry in the well known region of Artigas.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Rivista Mineralogica Italiana’ on page 138 in number 2009/2.

TG70T2: Stalagmitic growth of Quartz (amethyst) crystals with their prism more developed than usual on this kind of sample, very bright, with excellent color and very well marked phantom growths. The amethyst completely coats a Calcite crystal whose section is seen on the bottom of the sample.
