Troya Mine

Not only Áliva produces good color Sphalerite in Spain. A small mine called La Troya in the Basque Country produced, when it worked (it is now closed, collapsed, and flooded), nice, red and quite transparent ones.

NE59AM7: Complex crystals of caramel-colored Sphalerite, with very sharp crystal forms, more isolated than usual in pieces from this locality, transparent, with good luster and an intense color, on matrix, with white Dolomite and brown rhombohedral Siderite crystals. The mine has been closed for years and half flooded, making it almost impossible to obtain new specimens.

N13AHL6: Sphalerite crystals with well defined faces and edges, some of them with curvatures, with good honey color. Most are peppered by small Pyrite crystals. On a matrix with Siderite and Pyrite crystals. This mine closed a long time ago, and it is now flooded and collapsed, so it is quite impossible to obtain specimens there.

N11BL6: Group of Sphalerite crystals with well defined faces and edges, some of them with curvatures, on a white Baryte matrix formed by tabular crystals, some of them with a good size. An uncommon mineral association for this mine, that closed long time ago. It is flooded and collapsed, and so it is quite impossible to obtain specimens there.

XM80NE: Complex twinned crystals of Sphalerite, on matrix, with curvatures on the faces and edges, translucent, lustrous, and with an excellent honey color, partially covered by small rhombohedral crystals of Siderite and microcrystals of Pyrite. The mine has been flooded for a long time and is currently completely inaccessible.

N12DGM3: Group of very sharp Sphalerite crystals with curved faces. Good transparency, brilliance and excellent toasted honey color. With minor Dolomite. The Troya Mine has been flooded and collapsed for a long time.

NB87X9: Complex polycrystalline growths of Sphalerite. They are translucent, very bright, with curved faces and edges and with a very deep reddish color, and on a matrix of white Dolomite crystals with a small group of brown Siderite rhombohedrons. The mine is currently collapsed and filled with water, so such Sphalerite samples are currently part of Spanish mineralogical history.

EF50AJ5: Complex Sphalerite crystals, very large for the locality, transparent, very bright with a deep and intense honey color and partially coated by bright Chalcopyrite microcrystals.

JXA96AP8: Lamellar Baryte crystals, transparent, with very good luster and an intense and uniform yellow color, on matrix, with white rhombohedral Dolomite crystals and small groups of transparent spheroidal Sphalerite crystals with very good luster and a toasted honey color.
The specimen, of excellent quality for the locality, comes from the collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly.

NB9K9: Group of very well defined cubic crystals of Galena, partially covered by globular aggregates of brown Siderite, white Dolomite and Chalcopyrite. Today the Troya Mine is flooded and collapsed.

MF27AJ5: Galena crystals on matrix, one of them clearly dominant, with the form of the cube truncated by the octahedron on the corners. The sample is of the best quality for the locality.

NM9L4: Very aerial rosette aggregate of laminar Aurichalcite crystals, with a gentle blue color and silky luster. On a vug coated by small Quartz crystals which are covered by an orange and black layer; and with Limonite that enhances the Aurichalcite contrast. New find from a quarry of the historical Troya Mine, currently it is flooded and collapsed.

Eglestonite with Calomel and Mercury

NTX96AQ1: A novelty for Spanish mineralogy (see: La extraordinaria paragénesis de minerales de mercurio de Usagre)
Group of Eglestonite crystals -a mineral species produced by the alteration of other mercury minerals - with the dominant forms of the octahedron, on matrix, of a honey color, translucent, and completely filling a vug, as well as being dispersed in the rest of the piece. They are accompanied by Calomel crystals with an adamantine luster, and small Mercury droplets that are sustained thanks to their high surface tension.
Both of the mercury halide species have been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.
These minerals are photosensitive, blackening easily in sunlight and even under the light of a lamp, so we recommend keeping them in the dark.

NFG88AQ0: A novelty for Spanish mineralogy (see: La extraordinaria paragénesis de minerales de mercurio de Usagre)
Crystals of Calomel with an adamantine luster, some of them clearly dominant and easily visible, and with Eglestonite crystals, a mineral species, product of alteration of other mercury minerals, an element that is also present in the specimen as small drops of native Mercury that hold together thanks to their high surface tension. The quality of this sample is exceptional, compared to other specimens from the same discovery. Both of the mercury halide species have been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.
These minerals are photosensitive, blackening easily when exposed to sunlight and even under the light of a lamp, so we recommend keeping them out of the reach of light.

NBP96AO6: Allanite crystals with very sharp crystal forms, some of them doubly terminated and of considerable size for this type of specimen. On matrix, with small Epidote crystals. The Allanite-(La) at this locality is zoned with Epidote, so the most correct name for them would be Allanite-(La) zoned with Epidote.
The specimen comes from the collection of Santiago Jiménez who, especially in the 1980s and 90s, put together a collection with a very good representation of Spanish mineralogy.

NR97AC4: Flattened and elongated Gold nugget with small vugs, inclusions and hollows. The sample has a good size for the locality and shows on its upper part some defined but quite rounded crystalline forms.

NM68AH4: Dendritic, spongy and laminar Gold growths perched on a Quartz pebble. From an occasional and very recent find at a Spanish place in an area in which Gold pebbles have been noted, but is not well known until now.

NB49P4: A novelty at Munich 2009. The locality was known in 2004 for its Gold pebbles but it has been public only very recently. The pebble is very neat, rounded and has empty zones probably corresponding to disappeared Quartz grains and in its surface some quite big, nearly rounded, crystalline forms are preserved.
This specimen was photographed and published as a novelty at the 2009 Munich Show in the magazine ‘Le Règne Minéral’ number 90, page 27.

Somewhat different from what has been known up to now from this locality, it comes from recent discoveries in new work faces. It is very good news that the La Parrilla mine, one of the largest classic Spanish deposits, is yielding collectible specimens again.

NTX96AQ0: Polycrystalline growths of translucent Scheelite with a dipyramidal habit and an intense and uniform yellow-orange color. On a matrix of Quartz crystals, with small crystals of Cassiterite, Pyrite and Muscovite. It is very good news that the La Parrilla mine, one of the largest classic Spanish deposits, is yielding collectible specimens again.
The specimen comes from the Antonino Bueno collection, whose label we will send to the buyer.

NBR27AQ0: Scheelite crystal with a dipyramidal habit, with very marked parallel growths, translucent and with an intense and uniform yellow-orange color. It is very good news that the La Parrilla mine, one of the largest classic Spanish deposits, is yielding collectible specimens again.

TPP90CD5: Complex twinned Scheelite crystal, with polycrystalline growths, well defined faces and edges and a uniform and intense color with orange tones and good luster. This antique specimen comes from the first period of mining the La Parrilla concession, which was one of the largest tungsten mining areas in Spain.
It comes from the former collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly.

TTA67ASN2: A group of Andalusite crystals with well-defined shapes and a pink-salmon color with darker tones. Set on a matrix of Quartz forming geometric patterns with small remnants of Mica. From a Spanish locality not widely known in the collecting world.
The specimen comes from the collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly, whose label will be sent to the buyer of the piece.
