MJ7Y9: Crystalline botryoidal Pyrite growths that are very bright with intense iridescence. The Pyrite has completely replaced flat, hexagonal shaped, crystals of a pre-existing Pyrrhotite. They are on matrix with black Sphalerite crystals (variety marmatite) and with Quartz crystals. A high quality pseudomorph.

TT47AG9: A crown of small cubic Pyrite crystals that are bright and are covering a spheroidal mass that sits on a cluster of Quartz crystals.

TBJ14AN7: Twinned Chalcopyrite crystals with the dominant forms of the bisphenoid, very sharp, lustrous, and partially covered by small Quartz crystals and spheroidal aggregates of Calcite microcrystals. A classic specimen from Cavnic, where good specimens of Chalcopyrite are rare.
We will ship the specimen in its original Perky box from the Robert J. Noble collection, which also contains the label, which shows that it was previously in the Melanson collection.

Chalcopyrite with Calcite and Galena
 

TC69AF6: Aggregate of twinned Chalcopyrite crystals with the dominant forms of a disphenoid. They are very well defined and bright and have cubic Pyrite crystals on the back; small Galena crystals are associated. The chalcopyrite crystals are partially coated by groups of lenticular Calcite crystals. A classic piece from Cavnic, where good Chalcopyrite specimens are very scarce.

MD14Y9: Aggregate of very sharp twinned Chalcopyrite crystals. They are very bright and are on matrix with clear Quartz crystals and plates of white Calcite crystals.

TE56K0: Globular growths of very bright, small crystals of Chalcopyrite on a matrix of Quartz crystals partially covered by white Calcite.

TV76H5: Crystals have very defined faces and edges and form very distinct interpenetrating twins. The sample is very esthetic due, especially, to the contrast between Chalcopyrite and the Quartz crystals with it.

MF14AJ0: Floater group of twinned Gypsum crystals, white and bright, that are replaced by a white carbonate, very probably Calcite. A very original and interesting sample, very different from the usual at Cavnic.

NE46AI3: Double aggregate forming a “loop-like” shape of scalenohedral Calcite crystals that are very acute, translucent, bright and on a matrix coated by a first generation of Calcite crystals with Pyrite at the back.
The sample is from the Ignacio Hernández collection (num. 50) whose original label we’ll send to the buyer.

TA26AN0: Very acute crystal of Calcite totally covered by a second generation of globular Calcite with gray tones and located very aerially on a matrix of white Quartz crystals. Very original and different from other pieces from this mining district.

TC46AM6: Isolated spheroidal growth of Calcite, with good luster and a snow-white color, on a matrix covered by rhombohedral Dolomite crystals with inclusions of oxides. Very aesthetic.

TE64K0: Yellowish-white spherical growths of Calcite on a base of rhombohedral crystals of Dolomite with curved faces and edges.

SD89AB0: Divergent aggregates of very acute scalenohedral Calcite crystals implanted on a matrix coated by Dolomite, with Sphalerite, Chalcopyrite and Galena. These Calcite crystals have a very uncommon shape for the Boldut mine and they come from a local find. They have an excellent quality.

TA57C9: From the old days of Romanian mining we got this very esthetic specimen with its spectacular contrast between the snow white Calcite and the reddish Dolomite. As you can see in the detailed photo the form of the Calcite crystals is very attractive too.

T26DF6: The growth is very complex but the very brilliant crystals of Sphalerite have very well defined geometry, which is not that common. Especially esthetic given the contrast with the Chalcopyrite crystals.

TA16K0: Two twinned crystals of very well defined and bright faces and edges, implanted on a group of fine crystals of Quartz with small cubic Pyrite crystals.

BYM87AO8: Groups of twinned Sphalerite crystals, lustrous, and largely covered by Chalcopyrite. On a very rich matrix of cubo-octahedral Galena crystals and translucent white Quartz crystals.
The specimen, unusual for the locality, comes from an important European collection.

EB90AC4: Aggregate of very sharp and bright cubo-octahedral Galena crystals with twinned Sphalerite crystals and partially coated by small Quartz crystals. The Galena is very attractive because of its great luster.

MR96AA8: Aggregate of Rhodochrosite crystals with the well-known saddle shape. They have a uniform pink color, are on a micro-crystalline Quartz matrix and with a small group of Bournonite crystals. The sample is from the type locality for Rhodochrosite.

TR57H7: A spheroidal growth of rhombohedral, very flat, crystals that have curved faces and edges. The group is deep pink and contrasts with a thin matrix of Quartz crystals. Very esthetic.

RFX13AQ1: Elegant group of rhombohedral Rhodochrosite crystals with a pale pink color, on a matrix of brilliant white crystals of Quartz.

MR86R8: Aggregate of rhombohedral crystals with very pronounced curvatures, forming the habit well known as "saddle crystals". They have a very intense and uniform pink color and are partially coated by white groups of Calcite crystals.

MB92AK7: Stalactitic growths of rhombohedral microcrystals of Rhodochrosite, intense pink, that overgrew another mineral which dissolved away, probably Calcite. On the back of the specimen there are small growths of Pyrite. Unusual and with a different presentation from the more usual Rhodochrosites from Cavnic.

Rhodochrosite with Quartz (variety amethyst) and Helvine
 

MC50Z3: Druse of small Rhodochrosite crystals with a very intense pink color and with the typical saddle shape. They are with groups of transparent, very bright and clear lilac Quartz (variety amethyst) crystals and with an associated classic: small but very sharp Helvine crystals with a very intense yellow color. These Romanian Helvines, incredible as it may seem now, were regarded as very significant until the occurrence of the Huanggang mega-crystals.

NA89AL0: Group of flattened rhombohedral Rhodochrosite crystals, very bright and uniform pink color, with small Dolomite crystals and water-clear platy Baryte crystals, completely transparent and very lustrous.

MG47AG7: Rosette growths of flattened rhombohedral crystals with a lenticular shape. They have a very intense pink color and are on matrix with small Quartz crystals. Of the best well known quality for these classic Rhodochrosites from Cavnic.

ED26Z4: Aggregate of tabular Baryte crystals, between translucent and transparent, very bright and with an intense and uniform yellow color. The crystals on the base of the aggregate have a dark gray color due to the presence of Boulangerite (variety plumosite) inclusions. A great museum piece, currently very difficult to obtain due to the closure of all the mines in Baia Mare mining area.

E97TS0: Group of tabular crystals of Baryte. They are bright, transparent and have deep yellow color and are on matrix with small crystals of Quartz. A spectacular sample coming from an old mine now closed and abandoned.

NK90AL5: Druse of highly outlined tetrahedral Tetrahedrite crystals, extremely lustrous, with small white Calcite coatings, on matrix with Pyrite. The best possible for the locality.

T27KE8: The crystallographic simplicity of the Tetrahedite gives it a surprising beauty. The tetrahedra that give it its name are sharp, brilliant, have strong edges and contrast very well with the amazing forms of the Calcite and also with the small Pyrite pentadodecahedrons.

TC86E4: Cinnabar is quite unusual from the Maramures area. It has only been found very occasionally, and even then it is found in botryoidal groups of micro crystals, not well-defined crystals. The intensity of the color, rarity and the fact that it is associated with Baryte make this old timer very interesting.

Boldut Chalcopyrite pocket

A superb pocket of Chalcopyrite with Calcite and Quartz was found in early 1999 and has been a hit with collectors.

E16CF6: The complex growth forms of the Chalcopyrite are on a matrix of compact Quartz crystals. During a later phase of crystallization, with a surprising esthetic effect, some curious lenticular crystals of Calcite grew on the matrix.

SV2490CXF: Spheroidal groups of small flat crystals of Chalcostibite, very sharp and lustrous, which is extraordinarily unusual in this species, on white Quartz crystals and small Dolomite crystals. A rarity of the Boldut mine, which is currently closed.
This analyzed specimen comes from the collection of duplicates of Carles Curto (number 2008.65), whose label and computer file we will send to the buyer.
