Quartz and other Species from the Montseny / Montnegre areas

In a small quarry near Barcelona, appeared good samples of smoky Quartz and exceptionally some Quartz Amethyst. Lots of local collectors go there on the weekends hoping to find the sample of their dreams. As we know many of them we hear about new finds and see the specimens found. Here are some of them. If you want to know more about La Selva Quartz please follow this link

Mimetite on Galena from Atrevida Mine

Mimetite coating Galena and with Baryte

NL12AC3: An important find this last summer of 2015 uncovered a single geode in the well-known and old Atrevida mine, with crusts of very well defined Mimetite crystals. They are millimetric in size, very well defined and translucent with a greenish-yellow color and they show an elongated prism and an acute dipyramid. The Mimetite is more or less completely coating isolated or grouped cubic Galena crystals that are implanted on a matrix upholstered by aggregates of lenticular white Baryte crystals. Furthermore most of the samples have small Pyromorphite aggregates and laminar Wulfenite crystals that can be observed by close inspection. The Mimetite from this mine was already known, but not with this so well defined and fine presentation, completely coating the Galena and absent on the Baryte.

Baryte with Chalcopyrite

NX8L6: Parallel growth of idiomorphic Baryte crystals, one of them dominant, with excellent transparency and brilliance. Their upper and side faces have very well marked triangular growth figures that give the edges a sawtooth appearance. Also we can see corrosion and contact geometric structures on some faces. We call your attention to the interesting Chalcopyrite crystal inclusions, where the original yellow greenish color is preserved, while superficial crystals on Baryte faces are covered by a thin oxidation layer. The specimen is from mining works of Aizpea, close to the La Troya Mine.
