NR86AJ5: Andalusite crystals with simple forms and very well defined faces and edges and with excellent terminal faces. With an intense pink color with some lilac tonalities. They are on a matrix partially coated by leafy Muscovite aggregates. The sample is from a find, many years ago, in an area where access is currently prohibited.

San Andrés Mine Pyromorphite

The small San Andrés Mine in Villaviciosa, Córdoba, produced, over the period 1997-1998, some really great Pyromorphite! The color is a fantastic apple green and their brilliance is typical of the specimens that in the past have made this mine famous. These are, without doubt, the best Pyromorphite found in Europe during the last few years, and they really compete well with the famous American Bunker Hill Pyromorphite, and with the new Chinese ones. The specimens were found in two different pockets. The first one was found in November 1997 and it was called 'Realces' pocket. The second (and last) one was found in November 1998. It was called the 'Geoda del Tunel' pocket. Unfortunately, after these two pockets the mine entrance was blocked by tons of rubble.

NP74AL0: Group of prismatic crystals on matrix, many of them doubly terminated, with excellent development of faces and edges, some with flat pinacoidal terminations and others with acute polycrystalline terminations. The color and luster are very good. A glory from the past, coming from one of the best vugs found in the San Andrés mine.
The specimen is from the Ignacio Gaspar Sintes collection, whose label we will send to the buyer.

NH7AC2: Botryoidal growths with intense metallic-iridescent patinas, very bright and showing strongly contrasting coloration, with dominant red, yellowish and orange shades. These growths contrast with a later phase with smaller and grayish botryoidal forms. The sample is from a famous 2007 find.

We should also mention that the appearance of this Chrysocolla is very attractive as it isn’t just a crust as usual but it has nice forms covering what seem to be crystals of Quartz and probably Chalcedony. These nice forms together with their great color, generate what is, in our opinion, the best Chrysocolla found in Spain and nearly as fine as the nicer ones from other countries.

Almadén

Almadén is dead – long live Almadén!
A mine that has been in operation for over 20 centuries – it was first worked by the Romans from 372-287 BC – has recently been closed down. All work in the mine has stopped and the waste tips have been re-processed, so it will no longer be possible to find more specimens from this classic locality. As the old galleries have now been made safe so that they can be used as a new mining museum we don’t think they will find anything underground either. Before the Chinese Cinnabar appeared it was the locality that produced the best Cinnabar samples in the world. From our stock we have selected some examples, thus giving people who do not already have one the chance to add an Almadén sample to their collection.

During the last century a mine at El Horcajo, Ciudad Real, produced great Pyromorphite with a very large variety of forms. Specimens from the locality are very well represented in major European Museums. Unfortunately little of this material is available and it is very difficult to get hold of specimen from this mine. NB14AD2: Very well defined Mimetite crystals. They are millimetric in size, very well defined, translucent, with a greenish yellow color. They show an elongated prism and an acute dipyramid. The Mimetite is more or less completely coating an isolated cubic Galena crystal that is implanted on a matrix upholstered by aggregates of lenticular white Baryte crystals. Furthermore, there are laminar Wulfenite crystals that can be observed by close inspection. The Mimetite from this mine was already known, but not with this so well defined presentation, completely coating the Galena and absent on the Baryte. We’ll send a copy of the analysis of the mimetite to the buyer.

NB96AE7: An important find in the well-known old Atrevida mine, in the summer of 2015 a single geode with crusts of very well defined Mimetite crystals was uncovered. They are millimetric in size, very well defined and translucent with a greenish-yellow color and they show an elongated prism and an acute dipyramid. The Mimetite is more or less completely coating isolated or grouped cubic Galena crystals that are implanted on a matrix upholstered by aggregates of lenticular white Baryte crystals. Furthermore, most of the samples have small Pyromorphite aggregates and laminar Wulfenite crystals that can be observed by close inspection. The Mimetite from this mine was already known, but not with such a well-defined and fine presentation, completely coating the Galena and absent on the Baryte.

NJ60AJ5: Felted aggregates of acicular to fibrous Yuanfuliite crystals. They are bright, have a honey color and they are on a lamproite rock matrix with Hematite and white spheroidal Calcite growths. Yuanfuliite is a rare borate, identified as a new species in 1994 and well described at Jumilla by M. Calvo in 2012 (Minerales y Minas de España, vol. 5, pg. 649-650)

The Eugui quarry in Navarre is famous for its specimens of twinned, transparent or translucent Dolomite. While the quarry is still active, specimens are only found from time to time. In 1997 to 1998 a significant number were found and over the last few years a few more have appeared.

EM99AI7: Group of very sharp rhombohedral crystals, one of them clearly dominant. They are interpenetration twins and are transparent, very bright and have gray phantom growths. A Spanish classic really fine and of great quality. The sample is from the Daunis collection.
