Mineral specimens search results for [ lacerda ]

After the first significant gold discovery in Serra do Caldeirão in 2015 (An opportune harvest of Gold in Serra do Caldeirão claims, Brazil), there have been new small finds in the area. Specifically, this Gold is from 2017 and is from the Serra Dourada area. Compared to the others, it has an excellent color and the crystal faces are more rounded than those of golds from the Serra do Caldeirão.

Specimen from a deposit discovered in 2017 and located at some distance from the previously known locality in Serra do Caldeirão, but with different characteristics. In this case a floater group of well-formed elongated Gold crystals, with curvatures on some of their faces and edges and with spinel-law twinning.

A novelty at Tucson 2018. The sample is from a new place, not so far from the better known Serra do Caldeirão where the gold samples have different morphological characteristics. In this case this is a floater group of crystals with dodecahedron and octahedron faces with curvatures and very well defined skeletal growths. Due to its general shape and aspect it resembles sculptures of anthropomorphic figures of old civilizations.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Mineralogical Record’ on page 462 in the volume 49, number 3, May-June 2018, in the Russian magazine ‘Mineral Observer’ on page 76 in the volume 23, number 2, and for the magazine ‘Paragénesis’, number 01/2018, page 126

This piece may well be one of the largest gold spinel-law twins ever found in the prolific Serra do Caldeirão find.
