A larger, redder than usual crystal of Stilbite that has a crown of very white crystals of Mordenite on top of it. While Mordenite is normally not that appealing, in this sample it is of good quality and, being so aerial, makes for a neat specimen.

Marked spheroidal growths on a limonite matrix, with a deep olive-green color and a greasy luster. The back of the piece is completely covered by an enveloping layer of ocher-colored limonite. The specimen comes from the famous find of November 2011, in which Mottramite was reported for the first time in Mapimí as a collector-quality species.

JFD176AP0: Mottramite
Very old piece in my collection, I bought it from a 'basariste' in Asni, a small town located almost at the other end of Morocco. How curious that already in the year 1985 I had managed to purchase this Touissit rarity, 900 kilometers from there! These 'basaristes' of Morocco have done a formidable job of dispersing its minerals throughout the country, and in a way they have contributed, and continue to contribute, to its mineralogical splendor.

These Mottramites were found in 2011 at the Ojuela mine, where the species never before had been observed. A lot of samples were recovered in that find, but never again so the find was unique. The quality of this sample is quite competitive due to its botryoidal forms which make it comparable to the good quality samples from other localities. We’ll provide a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

The specimen comes from the collection of duplicates of Carles Curto No. 1982.33, whose digital catalogue entry we will send to the buyer.
