Find of the year in 2022. Parallel growths of two phases of Calcite crystals, one of them with very well defined grey translucent crystals, with “windows” that allow an earlier phase, with crystals covered by a layer of very shiny iridescent microcrystalline Chalcopyrite, to show through. An interesting novelty.

TT89AE3: Calcite with Pyrite

Two generations of Calcite crystals, one of them in small white scalenohedral crystals and the other in two large, colorless, clear and very bright crystals with the faces of a dominant scalenohedron and terminal rhombohedron. They are on matrix, with cubic Pyrite crystals. A very elegant sample, very different from specimens previously seen from the locality.

Flattened lenticular trigonal Calcite crystals, like umbrellas, in a matrix completely covered by a patina formed by a multitude of iridescent Pyrite crystals with dominant yellowish-ochre tones. A morphological curiosity and very aesthetic.

Find of the year in 2022. Parallel growths of two phases of Calcite crystals, one of them with very well defined grey translucent crystals, with “windows” that allow an earlier phase, in this case a very acute scalenohedral crystal covered by a very shiny iridescent microcrystalline Chalcopyrite layer, to show through. An interesting novelty.

Group of scalenohedral Calcite crystals, very elongated and sharp, extraordinarily lustrous, intense pink, associated with small Pyrite crystals.
The specimen comes from the collection of Miguel Salvador Robles of Madrid (lacks a label) and is from a locality from which very few quality specimens are known.

Aggregate of very sharp rhombohedral Calcite crystals with a second generation of lenticular crystals of the same mineral and druses of small Pyrite crystals that almost completely coat the rhombohedral faces. The sample is representative of the very varied mineralogical richness of Dalnegorsk.

Group of fine laminar crystals of Calcite of hexagonal shape, with color zoning and small recrystallizations of the same Calcite in some areas of the piece. The crystals are on a Quartz matrix with small Pyrite crystals.

MM26W9: Calcite with Pyrite

A novelty at Munich 2012. Parallel aggregates of Calcite crystals with a wide pinacoidal face, a much flattened rhombohedron and a poorly developed prism that has very bright faces. This crystal habit exhibits the so called “poker chip” morphology. The Calcite is partially coated by growths of small cubic crystals of Pyrite.

Aggregate on matrix of Calcite crystals, very rich in faces, some of them doubly terminated, with some deep hollow terminations and with very acute and extraordinarily sharp scalenohedral phantom growths coated by a layer of dark and very visible Pyrite. As in so many specimens in this collection, the sample is of great quality for the locality.

Translucent scalenohedral crystal with a yellow color, polycrystalline growths on the scalenohedral faces and a flat recrystallized base with slightly wavy surfaces, not foliated, and with a small rocky matrix.

EB76AN2: Calcite with Pyrite and Hematite inclusions

Group of Calcite crystals with very sharp prisms, terminated by a flattened rhombohedron. Translucent, white and with reddish iron oxides inclusions in the lower part of the prism. The specimen comes from a fortuitous and limited find in the El Hammam area in 2008.

A novelty at Tucson 2016. Twinned rhombohedral Calcite crystals with very well defined faces and edges, with surfaces covered by a later phase of drusy crystals of Calcite, and with a very pale pink color. They are on matrix, with Pyrite and Sphalerite. The sample is from a not yet widely divulged Peruvian mine.

SM190ND: Calcite with Pyrite et Fluorite

Complex translucent and bright Calcite crystals on a group of yellow Fluorite crystals with coatings of small groups of globular Pyrite crystals. A curiosity, not from the classic Moscona mine but rather from the less well known Villabona Mines.

TM16N6: Calcite with Pyrite, Goethite and Fluorite

Group of white crystals of Calcite with very well defined forms. The crystals consist of two prisms of three alternating faces and the three terminal faces of a flat rhombohedron but their surfaces are very rich in polycrystalline growths. They are on a matrix of botryoidal Goethite partially coated by small iridescent crystals of Pyrite. A very esthetic. piece from a recent find in the El Hammam area.
