In 2017 in the N'Chwaning I Mine some manual work for the extraction of collector’s specimens was reinitiated. This fine Rhodochrosite is a good example of the result of this work. Good color and great luster are the hallmarks of this piece.

Druse of rhombohedral Rhodochrosite crystals with well-developed crystal forms, of very good size and definition for the locality (which is extraordinarily unusual), lustrous and pale pink. The specimen is from the collection of Dr. Collin Kaeder.

TFT53CD4: Rhodochrosite

Group of Rhodochrosite crystals on matrix, forming parallel polycrystalline aggregates, of intense and uniform pink color and with good luster, exhibiting a habit that is not very common in the Wessels mine. A very aesthetic specimen for the locality.

EH16AD7: Rhodochrosite

Aggregate of very acute scalenohedral crystals. They are between transparent and translucent, with a color between red and mauve, very intense, deep and uniform, and are on a matrix of manganese oxides. A great classic although the locality is not well known for samples as fine as this one.

MFT86AN9: Rhodochrosite

Druse with translucent, lustrous botryoidal Rhodochrosite growths with an exceptionally intense and uniform color. A very elegant and rare specimen to have such quality. This specimen was from the Bernd Jarmer collection.

TE16AN2: Rhodochrosite

A historical piece, since the first 'top' Rhodochrosites from the Kalahari area were found in Hotazel before they were also found in N'Chwaning. It is a druse of very sharp and well separated scalenohedral crystals, between transparent and translucent, lustrous and with a very intense and uniform color. A magnificent classic of African mineralogy in which some crystals have cleavages, something very difficult to avoid in specimens of this type and size, although it does not affect the general aesthetics of the piece, considering its global quality.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published in the magazine ‘Mineral Up’ on page 42 of the 2020/02 edition.

RD10T8: Rhodochrosite

Small rhombohedral crystals of Rhodochrosite on matrix. They have color zoning, intense pink in their centers and transparent near colorless transparent edges. They are from a French locality uncommon in mineral collections.

TC87G0: Rhodochrosite

A fine group of subparallel growths of rhombohedral crystals with sharp edges and a soft and uniform pink color, with a little covering of Pyrite. The specimen is from Butte, a classic locality from which, actually, it is now very difficult to obtain good samples. It comes with a label from Shaw's Mojave Desert Gem and Mineral Shop, Yermo, California.

RJ47V5: Rhodochrosite

The sample shows a perfectly polished surface that reveals concentric structures with a very deep color on the left, and crystalline and brecciated structures with a lighter color on the rest of the sample.

TR27Z8: Rhodochrosite

Vug, on a rocky matrix, filled by short prismatic crystals with flat rhombohedral terminations. The crystals are transparent, bright, with very uniform color and have small, pale yellow, globular coatings, probably Smithsonite.

Druse of crystals that have an uncommon shape for Rhodochrosite, with very elongated prism faces and very flattened rhombohedral terminations. They have a very deep and intense color and are on a matrix of manganese oxides. A lost locality from which it is currently very difficult to obtain good samples.
