A novelty at Sainte Marie-aux-Mines 2018. Floater aggregate of parallel growths of very sharp thin tabular Baryte crystals, transparent, bright and partially coated by white aggregates of Quartz microcrystals and small Pyrite crystals. The color needs a separate comment because there is a mixture of reddish yellow, with orange in some areas but mainly concentrated on the edges, and blue, locally with greenish hues on the wide main pinacoid faces.

Great specimen, both for its size and for being very unusual, with very sharp Baryte crystals, between tabular and lamellar, and totally different from the classic ones from this deposit. In addition, the crystals are covered by very unusual orange Sphalerite crystals (analyzed) which form globular groups. The specimen undoubtedly owes its rarity to the fact that it is very old and comes from the collection of Pierre-Marie Guy, who was the one who acquired it from the miner Robert Guy.

The deposit from which this piece comes constitutes the largest lead-zinc deposit in France, exploited since Roman times until the end of the 20th century.
