Fosminer is the longest running show in Spain, and it is the meeting point for all the collectors who live in the north of Spain. This region was a major supplier of widely recognized classic mineral specimens: Dolomite from Eugui, Sphalerite from the Picos de Europa, Fluorite from La Collada, Berbes, the Villabona district, Emilio mine, Jaimina mine... Nowadays, while almost all these famous localities produce very few new specimens, the past activities mean that many people from the north got involved in collecting minerals and have now formed a large group of enthusiastic collectors. They always await the annual show in Bilbao as, for them, it is the biggest 'rock' show of the year.

With the BEC-Bilbao Exhibition Centre now fully operational, the show was held in Pavilion 2 of the BEC, a large, modern and functional hall.

In these three photos you can see some shots of Pavilion 2. It is very large and spacious, although for all that from time to time the show was very full.

A neat feature of the show is the number of institutions that have stands, which add another theme of interest for visitors.
This year the most notable stand was that of the Atapuerca Foundation, due to its international reputation as well as the well designed layout.

It looks like both the cephalopods and ancient inhabitants of Spain are both very pleased with the show.
The pleasant 'at home' feeling as well as the new exhibitors, who added a wider range of material than in previous shows, mean that the show is firmly established as the best in Northern Spain and that people will look forward to future shows.

The local press and TV did a good job of promoting the show. As good example is this page from the newspaper Deia, in which the reporter colorfully describes the general feel of the show as well as the hobby of collecting minerals.

Abur (as the say locally)...
