Dolomite.
FC76: Dolomite
A curious specimen. It is a Dolomite totally covered (but not pseudomorphosised) by a thin chocolate cover of iron oxides. First impressions when you look at the specimen are: nice Siderite! When you look more carefully you will discover that the primary crystals are really white curved Dolomite crystals totally covered by a lustrous, brilliant, colorful coating. Something different!

The specimen comes from the collection of Santiago Jiménez who, especially in the 1980s and '90s, managed to collect many rarities from urban and peri-urban areas of Northern Spain, very little disclosed before in the mineral collecting world.

Price: [SOLD]
Dolomite (twinned).
JFD182AP2: Dolomite (twinned)
The great classics are always great classics! Even though it is not a top piece, more than anything because of the size of the crystal, it is a Dolomite from 'el pozo' in matrix, undamaged, twinned and has that special 'light', that transparency and luster of the best dolomites from Eugui, those of 'el pozo'

Price: [SOLD]
Dolomite (twinned).
JFD228AP9: Dolomite (twinned)
Eugui dolomites are always exciting. I chose this one for its transparency and for that 'clean' appearance that the dolomites from the area of “el pozo” have; thanks to the good disposition of engineer Juan Córdoba. The crystal has a weird growth on one side, but it is a floater and whole everywhere.

Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Calcite.
JFD36AN7: Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Calcite
I had seen many pieces from this locality, but never found one that completely satisfied me. In 2013, Ester Pulido from 'Tesoros Naturales' had this piece and, given how 'fresh' the Fe-bearing Dolomite looked, and the beautiful edging of the white Calcite, I really liked it and bought it from her. In fact I still think that it is very beautiful for what is usually seen in this locality.
Iron mines of Ojos Negros, Ojos Negros, Comarca Jiloca, Teruel, Aragon  Spain

Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Pyrite.
JFD224AP8: Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Pyrite
Lots of history in this piece. It came from the Folch collection (duplicates) labeled as “Ankerite”, a name commonly ascribed in the past to more or less iron-bearing dolomites, since it was difficult then to analyze them adequately. At one time I sold it to Francesco S. Stoppani and it resided in his collection until Francesco decided to sell it, and on repurchasing it I decided to repatriate it because I had always liked it a lot and it had seemed quite unique to me. Its only drawback is that we cannot know with certainty in which mine it was found, because Folch just labeled it “La Unión”, and the experts in that mining district who have seen the specimen cannot say for sure exactly which mine it came from. Typical classic piece, with a lot of history behind it and prettier than usual.
La Unión, Comarca Campo de Cartagena, Region of Murcia (Murcia)  Spain
Specimen size: 11.8 × 9.2 × 4.8 cm = 4.65” × 3.62” × 1.89”

Dolomite after Calcite and Hematite.
ST56AC0: Dolomite after Calcite and Hematite

Both the matrix surface and the cavities on it, including the interior of the Calcite crystals, are coated by small Dolomite rhombohedrons. As is the case with so many specimens in this collection, the sample is of great quality for the locality.

Dolomite with Calcite, Pyrite, Arsenopyrite and Quartz.
EJ89AG8: Dolomite with Calcite, Pyrite, Arsenopyrite and Quartz
The great mining region of Trepča is one of the largest polymetal deposits in the world and it has given for many years exceptional pieces of Sphalerite as well as varied combinations of sulfides and carbonates. This old piece, found before the mine went back to work in 2005, presents an architectural group of large rhombohedral Dolomite crystals partially coated by Calcite crystals and with a cluster of Pyrite crystals on one side of the piece. Small crystals of Arsenopyrite dot the large Dolomite crystals and also some small Quartz crystals complete the combo.
