Madrid 2005
Escuela de Minas (Madrid) |
The
Madrid "Escuela de Minas" Show is a small show that is held in a great location.
The Escuela de Minas itself is
in a historical building with a central patio and columns within it. There is
a mineral museum on the first floor that has some great specimens on show, such
as the Freieslebenites from Hiendelaencina.

Shots from above of the whole of the show.
As you can see it is small but charming. In the lower photo you can see people
waiting for the show to open.

This year there was a promotion for the famous
Soplao found in La Florida, Cantabria. This marvelous cave has spectacular
Aragonite formations, which you will soon be able to visit. At the show they were
starting to promote it with leaflets, a book, and a display of photos of this
amazing find.

Just next to the Escuela de Minas, in the street Ríos Rosas, 23 there is another mineral museum in an unusual building. It is the IGME (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España) with an outstanding atrium whose glass roof allows the sunlight to illuminate the large collection of minerals and fossils that are on display in old cases placed on the various balconies of the beautiful museum. |
